Just a little poem…

Inspired by those who I have supported in my professional journey so far x

‘One fateful day the universe crossed your path with another’s,

That person was your parent, your sibling, your family or lover.

You offered your love & loyalty with the hope it would be returned,

But you began to see that no matter what you did this could not be earned.

Instead you were hurt, degraded, abused and crushed,

In yourself and others you could no longer trust.

One day you realise you have been deceived.

And you think how could this have ever happened to me?

You question your actions and believe you were to blame,

And the stark realisation hits that it was all just a game.

A game with ever changing rules that you could never win,

A formidable opponent full of hatred and sin.

That ruthless game that took an unbelievable toll,

On your body, spirit, heart and soul.

And suddenly it dawns, you don’t know yourself anymore,

Slowly but surely you begin to pick yourself up from the floor.

You long to feel heard, believed and desired,

But in your resilience and strength you should be inspired.

Because you have overcome something many could never,

And that something will be with you forever.

But forever doesn’t mean pain & fear,

Throughout all you’ve suffered you are still here.

You choose yourself and you walked away,

In anger and torment they will stay.

Be proud of your battle, they didn’t defeat you,

And be proud of yourself, because I am too’
